vaca

my parents were visiting for a week.
it has been three years since they came out last and we had a lot of fun
it's always sort of odd to have them out at first, like a dream where they're suddenly there but you're not used to seeing them there
but then they stay a day and suddenly, it's normal to have them around
so it's extra sad when they leave

we went to santa barbara for a couple of days
visited the mission (the sunflowers below were on the mission property)

and went to the santa barbara zoo (where i fed the giraffes)

dad also was kind enough to install some extra exterior lighting outside
and we spent a day at disneyland (finding nemo ride was cute, but the best is still indiana jones)

ate some good food

and they were very excited to eat at in n out burger for the first time
let's hope they come back sooner than 3 years

princess time

my friends c and d wanted adventure
romance
and knights
so where did we go over the weekend?

that's right
we got dressed up and dragged ourselves down to orange county to go to
medieval times

it was awesome
we had fun fruity drinks
food you have to eat with your fingers
and real knights!

yellow! yellow! yellow!

serious fun! i know i know, seems... silly
but we had great fun!

below is a movie of our knight!

another month on her way

the beginning of july is upon us with june almost gone
it's summer time
a time of hope and sunshine
small steps will be great leaps later

this month, the challenges are

saving money on yarn (i have plenty of yarn. really. i do.)
saving money on books (exception is the house of mystery and buffy monthly comics, they don't count. so there.)
do not rent movies - only netflix
be positive, mindful and healthy
challenge myself at the gym three times a week

these aren't big changes. just little ones. one at a time.

gardening

i do not pretend to know how to garden
i usually kill my plants, even cactus and bamboo
but so far...

hoorah! still going strong!
in fact, i took a handful, or two, of greens and fed them to mr. edgar, who enjoyed them.
so i was pretty confident when i wanted to do another two flower beds.

the lonely, empty flower beds...

and now...

and happily, i finally got my fruit tree...
blood orange tree.
hopefully it thrives

also, baked some chocolate chip cookies today.
they're good... not as good as my mom's (even though we use the same recipe) but isn't that always the way?

sigh
hubby is making our second meal in the slow cooker! and i am off to read for a while and get ready for work tomorrow
