an herb garden

there are a lot of areas around the house i live in that are in need of some tlc
one little bed in particular, i've been daydreaming about growing an herb garden there, mostly for bunny purposes
a nice piece of rosemary when he's least expecting it is a treat
also, we can cook with it and not have to buy big amounts at the grocery and then not use all of it!

it took many hours this morning (mostly because the bed was a mess and because i had no idea what i was doing) but finally...

Tah-DAH!

included are parsley, purple basil, lemon thyme, purple thyme, sage

notice the old fuse next to the pots - i found in the flower bed. along with nails, plastic, and bottle caps

in the pots, we have our - "doesn't want to share space" group basil, rosemary and mint (basil is in its own pot because i didn't have room in the bed, not because it is aggressive)

i only hope to keep it alive, as i have recently killed some bamboo....

happy mother's day

i called my mom
i called her yesterday, just in case, and this morning

yesterday, a box of flowers was delivered to my doorstep you know the kind. in a pretty cardboard box wrapped in a bow
i held my breath
could it be? could i have gotten flowers? for mother's day? i am the happy mother of a very grumpy bunny!
a wave of excitement pushed me to pick up the box
perhaps it was from my husband! thoughtful! or my parents? surprise!

and then i looked at the address... and it was addressed to the previous resident.
the delivery man was gone
besides frowning on behalf of my own disappointment, i thought that somewhere out there, a mother was not getting her flowers and that made me sad.

i go inside with the box and for entertainment ask my husband if he sent them to me
"maybe" he said, mishieviously
i think - wait, no. he must be joking. the name isn't mine.
of course by now we both know he is lying
so i ask him again - you sent these to me?
and he raises his eye brows and looks away, his mouth in a surprised shape
i said no you didn't. i know you didn't. and we both start laughing
boys

i called the flower company, who asked me to open the message card so we knew we had the right package... it was to a mother, from her three children.
now, we moved in a while ago. are you telling me these kids did not know that their mother no longer lived at this address? if that's the case, then they should be sending something more than flowers! but i think that it was probably just a mistake, using a previous saved address or something like that.
the flower company hung up, after telling me i could keep the flowers and that they would contact the person who paid for them and try to get the correct address.

i opened the box
a dozen long stemmed colorful roses awaited in plastic and soft paper

i hope the mother got her flowers and had a happy day and those flowers brightened my day
so thank you universe.

a little vitamin d

i work in an office
a very cute made-it-my-own office
but alas, it does not have windows
no sun
just artificial light for me

so lunch today, i blackmailed my friends CeCe and Lamb and took them to the park down the street for a lunch hour of fun in the sun

there was educational reading

and Lamb knows how to spin wool into yarn (incredibly pretty wool dyed by Sunshine Yarns)

and absorbing the sun and smiling up at the trees
i love trees; their leaves, branches, colors and textures
i like the sounds they make when the wind brushes them and the different greens they have at each time of day

sigh
relaxing lunches outside in the sun

ooh, someone wasn't happy i couldn't take them with me.

a turn about the room

i'm a big fan of jane austen, but alas, i do not live in england with english countryside and sheep. small morning walks are the closest i will get in la.
a couple friends and my husband and i go for a walk every saturday up fryman canyon. (sheep not included). we used to do it more when we lived a little closer to the area, but hopefully we'll pick it back up again. there's nothing like a light morning walk to wake everyone up. and it's a time when i get to talk to some friends who i don't see very often and we catch up.
we went last saturday
and normally, the walk is dry, dusty, sand.
but we had had a bit of rain and so the air was clean (er)...

and there were flowers!

i don't think were going this weekend. sadness.
