the last bookstore, los angeles

Read Now Sleep Later, my friend's blog, gathered a group of kids (that's us) to go check out the used book store The Last Bookstore in downtown LA.
It was pretty amazing. The dark hardwood bookcases, the array of used books, all in very good condition. And the cheap prices! I had a budget of $20, but didn't even spend close to that. I bought three books for $11. Score!

adventures in.... temecula!

wineries abound!

hubby and i, along with my favorite scottish in-laws, took a weekend trip to temecula!

sure, it took us 3 hours to get there in friday afternoon traffic
yes, it was so hot you could melt an egg on my forehead
but it was lovely!

i had a great time with my in-laws, (yes i am telling the truth and you can be jealous of me now)

after visiting napa last year, i wasn't sure what to expect. temecula has a charm all its own. we unwound from our long car ride with drinks at texas lil and finished with dinner at the gamblin' cowboy

total awesomeness: (and in the first photo, that is my mum's foot making its' very first appearance on this blog!)

my steak was delish! and if you ever find yourself in temecula, stop by for their melted brie in filo dough with berry dressing.
to. die. for.

we started saturday morning at

long shadow winery

whoa!
pretty awesome. our wine taster bartender was named mike and he was friendly, knowledgeable and a downright cool guy. thanks mike!

we continued onto South Coast wineries, which had cheaper wines, but their tasting room was less personable and more crowded. not a lot of talking to the bartenders or getting to know the individual wines. but still fun. and the wall of awards doesn't lie!

beautiful grounds. and they were having a two weddings there later that night.
really pretty.

our third, and final winery of the day was leonesse.
we had drank a delicious bottle of it for dinner the night before and couldn't help checking it out.
mum and i were done drinking by this time and i became designated driver, so we sat outside under a patio awning and took a break while the guys went on tasting.

and who could blame us with this view

who knew temecula was this green!!?

later on, we found ourselves wandering through the old west town of temecula.
fun
beautifully kept

and my hubby loved the above chili gourmet shop. we came home with three different kinds of hot sauces.

Yippie-ki-yay!

Happy 4th of July!

le sigh
sadly the long weekend is over and it's back to work for me.
but 4th of july was HOT HOT HOT! (over 100 in the valley) and fun!
hubby got to grill, even in the heat (i'm not sure how he does that)
and...

we took in a dodgers game against the mets

they were doing well for a while up by 2, but alas, it was not meant to be.

the best part of the night... the fireworks at dodger's stadium

happy 4th of july kids!
